Mostly I am wanting to warn others in my community about our experience working for a local vet. My daughter is 15 and this was her first job. It was over a month and she hadnt received any pay. When she had asked about it the Dr said she could give her cash until she was in the system at the time (my daughter is afraid of her) and my daughter was like oh, thats ok. But a week later my daughter asked her if she could get some of her money and the Dr gave her $40 and said if she needed more she would need to speak to her mom about why she needed the money...which let me tell you fired me right up but i was trying very hard to let my daughter handle it and just to give advice. The next week they said shed get her direct deposit but when the time came they said 2 more weeks. I filed a complaint with my state's labor board (KY) and I knew they contacted her this week. When I picked my daughter up from her first shift this week she was crying and I'd had enough. I went and spoke with the doctor and while things started out civil they didnt end that way. She asked if I was the one who filed the complaint (obviously?). I told her in ky you have 18 days from the time worked to pay your employee. We went in circles for a while with this with her saying she didnt know that was the law and she's a vet with a small business. Finally I said that ignorance of the law does not excuse breaking it and as an employer it was her job to know the law. She said if I didnt feel right with my daughter working there then she could leave and I said 100% and that ended it. She has her pay stub today. When she started they told her she would make $9 an hour and double time on weekends. I even have a text from my daughter after her first Saturday shift telling me that they told her she'd make $112 for that day. When asked the vet says she pays no one double time but that if her mom wants to talk she'd be happy to get her attorney involved. I'm not hiring an attorney over a couple hundred dollars and im sure she knows that. So what can I say on a public forum? I know it's not slander if its the truth but how is that proven? She's clearly not afraid to bring an attorney into it and my family cannot afford to be sued. But if I can save another teenager and their parents from this mess I'd like to. Thanks for reading.
