Location: Ohio I am salaried, but this occurred in the middle of the work day while on the clock and performing job duties. Traveling between two different work sites for a mandated work duty; therefore, not personal errands. My personal vehicle. I am not given specific pay for any travel while on the clock - it is assumed to be included in my salary pay. This incident was immediately reported to my employer. I do not have my insurance set to "business travel" as 99.9% of my travel is to and from home. However, I was mandated to travel to another work locations for a mandatory meeting 2 hours after I began work at my normal location. If I attempt to go through my insurance to have it covered, I fear I risk losing coverage and also having the claim denied. My employer is refusing to acknowledge the are required to pay for any incidents involving personal vehicles. Everything I have attempted to research shows that travel for business purposes during business time on your normal schedule should be covered by the employer under "vicarious liability" even if there was not another party involved in the damages. The damage only involves myself. Is the employer correct in this situation? Is there any legal documentation I could provide to the HR department (they have not denied it in record, but I was advised in passing verbally that it would be denied).
