So my dad was a retired CPA and helped me with my taxes. In 2020 I took $28K out of my IRA and planned to spread it out over 3 years. In 2021 I filed my 2020 1040 and showed a 1/3 ($9,333 distribution, I was 53 in 2020). My dad missed the 8915 form. I never heard from the IRS about a penalty for early distribution. Same thing happened in 2021. We claimed the $9,333 but no 8915-F. No word from the IRS, no penalty, etc. I'm working on finalizing my 2022 return myself and just now realized thanks to Turbo Tax that this 8915 form was supposed to be filed starting in 2020. Any thoughts on how to proceed? I can't file the 8915 with the 2022 because I don't have the info from the 2020/2021 years to complete it. Everything I see suggests not to file an amendment at this point. Do I just do like I did for 2020 and 2021 and include the final $9,333 in income as an early distribution and forget about it? Hope I don't get a penalty letter and if I do, deal with it then? There doesn't seem to be a lot of information on this scenario but the IRS tool says not to file an amendment. Thanks for any info.
