My first client kind of fell into my lap (my wife is friends with his wife) and while he's willing to refer me to others, he doesn't really have the network of people who are looking to hire Software Developers. I'm working on my personal website, some Github projects to pad my portfolio (can't use any projects from work because of NDAs and private data) at the moment to make myself more appealing to potential clients but I'm pretty lost on how to find clients. I'm still holding down my full time job but the contract is coming to an end in December so I'd like to be prepared to go full time on freelancing by then. So, how would you look for new clients in 2025 and beyond? Ads, social media marketing, writing blog posts? I have a LinkedIn that I never use but I could start posting blogs there I guess. I don't want to rely on Upwork or a third party platform, that's a last resort because of the heavy competition.
