Location: Redmond , WA, USA. I am currently debating with a Private Parking Company contracted with my city about a parking citation. I do plan to contest it as well. Last Tuesday I parker twice, separately , on the same street right outside my apartment. Here is the breakdown : Parking Sign states : limit is 2 hours from 9 am - 9 pm 3:40 pm - Parked right in front of my apartment , ran upstairs to unload groceries. 4:20 pm - Left town for appointments and to pick up kids. 7:14 pm- Parked again , same street, similar spot, unloaded kids, bags etc. 7:40 Went down to move my car to not exceed the 2 hour limit to a spot I can park overnight, find a ticket. To Recap : Between 3:30 pm- 7:40 pm , I was parked twice, separately, on same street, for a total of 64 minutes. I emailed private company and city to contest , and private company provided photos stating that my parking started at 4pm (when they first logged my car ) , and ended at 7:12 pm, with an “elapsed time of 3 hrs 12 min”. I provider them appointment confirmation , dinner receipts and even my GPS showing I was not physically in my hometown between 4:30– 7:00 pm. To this the Private Parking Company said: “I very clearly understand, you parked initially at 3:40pm which started the 2 hour clock, You left at 4:20pm but the clock is still rolling. You cannot “Repark” on this street again after 5:40pm or before 9pm. Reparking does not restart the clock regardless of how long you initially parked. Even though your initial parking session was only 40 minutes you cannot extend the parking period beyond 5:40pm by reparking, regardless of the time you were gone. When your return and repark if you are past two hours from when you initially parked you would be in violation. Returning and Reparking at 7:14pm is past 5:40pm and before 9:00pm in violation. to not be in violation at 7:14 you would have needed to park on a street with a different name. No person having control of a vehicle may park or stand such vehicle upon any public way or street beyond the time limit stated on any official sign, placard, or pavement marking wherever such official sign, placard, or pavement marking may be located. B. Where a time limit is established by an official sign, placard, or pavement marking, no person may repark a vehicle on either side of the same street in order to extend the vehicle’s parking time beyond the time limits established. For purposes of this section, a vehicle shall be deemed to be reparked and in violation of this section despite any movement of the vehicle unless the vehicle is moved to a street with a different street name than the street the vehicle was originally parked on. (Ord. 2490 § 2, 2009).” I did not move to extend my parking , nor was my car parked for more than two hours TOTAL on the same street . I wish the city would chime in to clarify but guess I’ll have to go to court of find out. https://redmond.municipal.codes/RMC/10.52.105
