I own a business that exports from the US to a significant number of clients abroad (mostly Canada, Europe, and South America). It’s been so difficult and time consuming trying to get clear information on how the tariffs work in practice. We sell something worth $50 and the client ends up paying almost 100% tax when you add up shit like the “broker fee” that UPS adds and a bunch of other surcharges. I can’t even accurately quote clients for shipments because suddenly they’ll get hit with an unexpected charge. And for a couple of bigger clients I’ve ended up paying the fee myself to save face. But even then it’s lost business, and a massive burden. I’ve wasted hours on the phone with UPS Mumbai Team. This is worse than a tax and it’s been a roller coaster trying to run a business without having predictable numbers. I feel the biggest winner here is UPS and whoever the “brokers” are that charge more than the actual tariff. I can’t comprehend how any of this is acceptable to anyone, let alone the party of “small government”. Everyday it’s fucking something in this timeline
