I'm a 21 year old 2nd year apprentice and I need some advice on the best path to getting my license and eventually opening my own company. I currently work for a big commercial company who does a lot of high rise projects, they also do smaller cooler projects but its hard to get placed on those since they don't require as much manpower. I've been roughing in suites for 4 months straight and im getting worried that I am starting to get stuck on only doing one thing. The company I work for is non union and they dont pay great, for example a 4th year apprentice makes 28 bucks cad an hour. I keep thinking about leaving because of these facts but everyone keeps telling me to just stick it out till I get my license then I can go wherever. So I need some advice from other electricians who enjoy their current position or who own their own company.
