Hey guys, I was working for a big roofing company in Toronto. Since I didn't like my salary, I quit and moved to a new one that's even bigger than my old company, with a better union and all that. In my first week, I worked 7 days straight, over 70 hours. I'm solid on single-ply roofing systems—right from when I got hired, I've been welding PVC. But in my second week, there's no material, so no work at all right now. Isn't that weird? I never dealt with anything like that at my old place—even on rainy days with leaks, permanent or temporary repairs, I was always racking up hours, even on the shittiest weeks. Plus, I heard there's nepotism going on; on rainy days, they send their brothers, cousins, or buddies out on leak calls just to collect hours. My foreman barely speaks English, too, and almost 90% of the crew is Spanish. So what should I do? Stick around here for 3-4 months and figure out my next move, or start hunting for better companies? The only issue I had with my old spot was the pay.
