In February, a client said that he need static website (saas mvp) and that was not urgent. I quoted only INR 1.2 lakh ($1428) considering that only vibe coding+ 2-3 days customisation. I calculated only 2 weeks of work. That is what MVP means. What was in bundle was fully fledged SaaS. I dropped the project in March citing that this will cost a lot more than 5 lakh+ (open above that cost). I was told not to drop and I will be paid. I didn't continue for 3-4 months and after repetitive requests, I completed the project. They agreed to pay for the work. There was no aggreement was signed. It took me 330 hours for building a digital menu for restaurants SaaS (I used cursor) in react and nodejs. I have written tests for each API and they are well documented. There are 2 websites and two portals with multilingual and multi-currency support. I had got only 50k INR ($595) upfront. Now, they are saying how $1428 project be charged at $7739. ($23/hr). They are giving me 2-3% equity as a compensation. I don't want to be a part of self bootstraped company with no tech team and no startup experience. Now my question is who own this code? As there is no aggreement signed, can I customise it and sell to someone in the same domain or in similar other domain?
