So I launched a new CBO testing campaign last week at a $2k/day budget. I’m in clothing/apparel. The setup was 6 ad sets grouped by angle all targeting broad usa, and each ad set had 5 totally different ads in it — mainly videos that are all unique, and one ad set that was all images plus a carousel. I didn’t touch anything for the first 5 days because it was performing great. For those first few days, the campaign was honestly doing extreamly well. ROAS was sitting around 2.5 lifetime, and I even had days hitting mid to low 3.0’s. Cost per purchase was low, conversion volume was good, conversion rate was in the 4's, shopify showed mostly new customers about 75%, and the crazy part is that frequency was actually trending *down*, not up. So everything looked clean, stable, and efficient. At that point, instead of slowly increasing the budget inside that same campaign, I decided to take my top-performing ads — the 7 that had the most purchases and lowest frequency — and duplicate them into a brand new scaling CBO. 1 ad set targeting broad with all 7 ads. I kept the same ad IDs and set that new campaign at $3,500/day and ran it side-by-side the $2k testing campaign. About 10 hours later, everything fell apart. Not only did the brand new scaling campaign tank, but the original testing campaign tanked along with it. ROAS dropped struglling to stay at 1.00, CPMs jumped, purchases slowed down — the whole machine basically just stopped working. i decided to kill the scaling campaign and keep the testing campaign running for now to see if it can recover because it was trending in a way that i would be more than likley net negative if i kept the scaling running (atleast that was my fear) And this has now happened to me three times. The first time I tried scaling like this, it actually worked for around 4 days before crashing, but I was okay with it because at least it had produced great profit. The second time, everything died right away and the original testing campaign never recovered even 2 days later, so I had to rebuild from scratch. Now this time, same exact situation — duplicate to scale, and both campaigns nosedive. So now I’m trying to understand *why* this keeps happening. I used to do ABO scaling and had some success, but lately ABO hasn’t been as stable for me, so I shifted into heavier CBO testing. I’ve been running my own ads for about a year now and I usually spend around $100–120k/month, but this scaling issue keeps happening and I haven’t figured out the root cause yet. If anyone has insight on how to scale *without* killing the ad accounts performance, or can give me some professional insightful advice I’d appreciate it. I’m definitely still learning and trying to improve here.
