I’m a new grad who works in a unit that consists of mainly travel nurses. It’s not a hard unit at all but is considered an ICU. Recently the hospital announced they won’t be giving as much of a pay incentive for those that pick up shifts and that they need to work at least 3 shifts a week before qualifying for that incentive. So many of the nurses on the floor were talking about leaving the hospital. That’s when I realized that the unit is basically 80% travel nurses. I’m a new grad who wants day shift only but I got stuck with rotating because that’s all they offered but now that I know all of these travel nurses are day shift only it kinda rubs me the wrong way. As someone who has worked in management before it makes more sense to pay a staff nurse day shift salary and make travel nurses do the rotating or night shifts because they’re getting paid double or more than the staff and as a company you would be sending those you hire to where you need which is nights… idk if that makes sense but just something I don’t understand if a hospital is in a financial crisis
