I am nearing the end of my runway with my eCommerce brand and am struggling to figure out what my next best move is. Do I pivot, find a partner, sell it, or close it down? Is there an alternative option that I am not thinking of? The brand is a niche automotive brand focused on performance truck parts and accessories. These parts are from well known brands in the industry as we are an authorized dealer. While the business itself hasn’t turned a profit, I strongly believe that there is real value in what’s been built, especially when the barrier to entry in this space is factored in. We possess distribution accounts and in this industry and those are extremely difficult to get. Many brands are actively trying to limit eCom sellers across the board, not just in the automotive space. Just having the accounts I do is something someone new would be difficult get access to. The truck parts space has a lot of SKUs, fitment data, MAP pricing, etc. A lot of brands struggle to balance all of this and not sacrifice the user experience. I’ve invested heavily in building out systems and processes to manage it all in a way that is efficient and scalable while providing a great experience for our customer. A lot of the tools I’m running on were adopted when pricing was far lower. For example, one tool I pay $100/month for now costs $250**+** if you were to start today. Other assets that come to mind include aged domains and social media accounts. A large email list. So while the business hasn’t been profitable (yet), it also has a lot of assets. It has a foundation that has a lot of potential to grow, especially with the right ad budget and team behind it. I am reaching out to see what others might do in my position. Would you keep grinding? Look for a partner or investor, if so where? Try to sell, is that even possible? Shut it down and try to keep some assets for a future play? I’ve poured years into this and really tried to build something smart and different, not just another eCom. It’s tough being here, but I know I’m not the first. Any advice and/or perspective would be appreciated.
