Hey all. I’ve started doing some freelance marketing on the side. Learning a lot and enjoying the process. Im going to start an agency. The problem: my job may be hindering my upward progress. Some weeks are 70 hours. Some weeks are 35. Most are 55. But it’s very inconsistent, and lots of days I don’t know whether I’m even working or not (or where) until 2,3, 4:30 the day before. Could be working 14 hours, could be working 6. Don’t know that until I’m already 4 hours into that shift. It’s a struggle. But I’ve been told the past 5-6 weeks I’ll be transitioning into a hybrid role where I’ll have some days that are consistent. Not much urgency there, and the end goal is unclear as far as how much of which role I’ll be doing. They aren’t really that sure either (management are experienced entrepreneurs, but it is a startup so I understand why they can’t give me an exact what/when). Even though the transition was their idea after I was hired, I’m a little worried about getting taken advantage of or led-on. I’m having trouble deciding whether to find a consistent m-f 40 hour role that pays a bit less so that I can have more time to pursue my goals, or to stick it out here and do what I can for my business when I have the time, and hope that the transition provides better stability sooner than later. The newer role would be good for my marketing and sales education. I don’t want to waste any more of their time as they are training me on stuff occasionally. Thoughts from anyone that had a similar experience in the beginning? Or any advice on the situation at all? I really like the company and the people I work with/for, but I want to be realistic. If you made it this far thank you for reading!
