Location: Utah Hello! I have been looking for somewhere to post this, but have unfortunately not found the right place so hoping someone here can help me. I started working for this small business about 2 weeks ago, and there were honestly red flags from the beginning that I ignored. I was not given a contract, but was always promised that it was coming, so I have never signed anything legally. I was told I would be a W-2 employee but never actually filled out the paperwork. I put in around 30 hours of work over the last two weeks but there were some shady handlings so I decided to quit. Well now the owner of the company has required that I return all supplies, and that because I failed to record my hours (which I did record them and sent the record) I would be a standard priced per piece once all materials had been delivered (instead of the $15 an hour as I was told). They are also saying that because I worked from home and set my own schedule, that I am an independent contractor rather than an employee so I cannot file a wage claim. I’m honestly at a loss. It’s only like $400 but the owner has threatened police involvement. Any advice on what I should do?
