I recently moved my food truck to a different state, registered a new business name, rebranded, and am currently waiting for my inspection for me to start serving. I registered the business 2 months ago, and yesterday the calls started. I'm getting calls every 15 minutes from "VSP Voice Search Platform" or any number of purposefully ambiguous names to make it difficult to search the company. They all say the same thing "Your company is not registered with Google, Apple, and Amazon voice services and you're leaving customers behind!" I'm writing this to maybe help some others out. This is all bullshit. Google works completely off the Google My Business Profile. Others work off of maps data. You do not need to pay some scammy company hundreds of dollars a month to "be found" on voice search platforms. The only thing you need to do is set up your free Google My Business profile and that only takes a few minutes. Literally if you can register your company and get your sales tax permit, you are way more than capable to set up your own profile. But if you need help, DM me and I'll help you do it via Reddit chat (when I'm not working) for free. Just to keep people from going with these scammers and not getting any results out of it. Hell, I may put together a non-technical user guide or video just to help people avoid these assholes. I love the fact that they use spoofed numbers so you can't contact them back. They won't give you any contact info without you paying for their service. They are also aggressively condescending when you tell them they are full of shit. I run a food truck, but I spent 28 years in tech building sites, apps, and setting up Alexa to work as a platform for things like student housing (in some dorms at college, students can order school based services using voice commands with their in-room Alexa device, it was difficult, expensive, and prone to issues so it never went wider than a few schools). I've done a lot on the web but I got laid off and I'm burnt out in tech, I have zero desire to get back into it beyond light help for others and building my own stuff to support my food truck. Now, if you're looking for a damn good burger, let me know and I'll hook you up when I start serving. Not for free though, my burgers are the bomb (dot) com baby.
