So for my biz it's production vs post production. All production work we bill clients by the hour/day/etc. Post production is typically built into that cost and generates no revenue unless it's a rush or special project. When the OT is on production, no questions asked because our billing correlates to it. When the OT is for post production, it is usually approved ahead of time - open endedly, but it's easy to check time stamps.
