Location: South Carolina I just started a new job a few weeks ago and got my first check today. In total I worked 114 hours for a 2 week period. I clock in every morning at the office when I arrive and load equipment into the truck before I head to different job sites. I then complete jobs at sites throughout the day, and travel in a company vehicle throughout the day to different sites. My pay check was only for 73 hours of the 114 as my boss says he deducts all travel time from the check. I’m not an independent contractor and I don’t make commission, I’m a regular w4 employee. I asked why it was being deducted and he said he can’t afford to pay us overtime and he’s helping us save money in taxes so we should be happy. I’m new to sc and I’m not sure if this is a legal practice or if what he is doing is something I can fight.
